Douglas Awana has been active in high school football officiating for over 30 years. He has also officiated in the Hula Bowl and worked in the Arena 2 Football League. After the passing of his wife in 2005, Doug resigned from the field and focused on improving the training and quality of high school officiating in the State of Hawaii.
Doug is currently a Replay Technician for all University of Hawaii home games. He also is the HHSAA Coordinator of Football Officials and is primarily responsible for the testing, evaluations, and assignments of all officials who work in the State Tournament. His vision is to someday have a standard set of mechanics and to standardize the training program for all football officials in the State of Hawaii.
