Frequently Asked Questions

What rule book do we use?

The Aloha Clinic was designed primarily for the youth and high school officials in Hawaii. We will be using the NFHS rule book with some modifications for safety and timing. Many of the philosophies used in the NFL and NCAA have been incorporated into high school football and will be taught and used at the clinic. We will run with seven man mechanics and instruct officials on how plays can also be worked in five man mechanics.

When should I get there?

We are still working on the schedule details.

Where will the clinic be held?

The class portion(s) of the clinic held at UH and the field locations are determined by the participating schools.

What should I wear?

Dress for classroom instruction is casual. Our scrimmage mechanics can be worked in black shorts but player participation field day is full uniform. Black pants are preferred but white knickers are acceptable. A piped hat is preferred, but hats with league logos or patches are allowed.

Who Should Attend?

The aloha clinic is open to any level official who is interested in honing skills, developing skills, and making friends. All officials will benefit from the instruction and feedback form our great instructors.

I am not from Hawaii, am I still welcome?

The Aloha Clinic welcomes officials from anywhere in the world to attend.

Will housing be provided?

Housing will be the responsibility of each official attending. If you are interested in using the clinic hotel the price is very reasonable and you can make a reservation on the hotel web site. Thank Dan Bayne for this service.

Will I have time on the field?

We will have field drills at the university and it looks favorable that we will be working some spring ball with the local high schools.

How much does it cost?

The earlier you register the less expensive it is. Exact prices are listed on our registration form.

How do I register?

Go to the 2012 Clinic Sign-up tab at the top of this web site.

How do I get to the clinic?

Costs are kept low by allowing officials to make their own transportation and hotel arrangements. These arrangements are your responsibility. If you are interested in a room-mate or car-pooling you may find one on the Aloha Clinic message boards.

What should I bring?

You should bring your uniform and materials for taking notes. Weather will be hot in July so plan your clothing accordingly.
